Neighbourhood
Just a short journey from the mainland, the Isle of Bute is one of Scotland’s most accessible islands and it offers far more than its compact size suggests. Though only 15 miles long and 5 miles wide, Bute is rich in history, culture, wildlife, arts, and music, making it a perfect destination for visitors of all ages. At the heart of the island lies Rothesay, the main town and arrival point for most visitors. Bustling with life during the day, Rothesay offers a relaxed, peaceful charm in the evenings after the last ferry departs. The town is home to a variety of cafés, bars, restaurants, takeaways, and of course, ice cream shops, all catering to both locals and tourists alike. The island boasts a traditional Victorian charm, with beautiful period architecture lining its streets. Many of these historic buildings have seen thoughtful restoration in recent years, adding to the island’s unique character and appeal. A highlight of the shoreline is the striking Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, an iconic 1920s circular building made of cast iron and glass. Lovingly refurbished, it now features a cinema, theatre, and interactive exhibits, celebrating the very best of Bute’s heritage and creativity. History lovers will enjoy a visit to Rothesay Castle, complete with restored dungeons, thick stone walls, and an impressive great hall. Just a short stroll away, the Bute Museum offers further insight into the island’s fascinating past. No trip to Bute would be complete without exploring Mount Stuart House, a spectacular neo-Gothic mansion set amidst breathtaking gardens. It’s an unmissable stop during your stay, offering a glimpse into the grandeur and elegance of Bute’s historic legacy.
Transit
Reaching the Isle of Bute is simple and stress-free. The island is well-connected via a regular ferry service from Wemyss Bay on the Clyde coast. Wemyss Bay also has a railway station with frequent trains to and from Glasgow, making it a seamless journey whether you’re travelling by car or as a foot passenger. The CalMac ferry takes around 35 minutes and offers a comfortable crossing with stunning coastal views. It accommodates both vehicles and foot passengers, and docks right in the heart of Rothesay, Bute’s main town. Once you arrive, getting around is easy. Rothesay is very walkable, and taxis are readily available just outside the ferry terminal. The island is also served by a reliable public bus network, making it convenient to explore Bute without a car. For those who enjoy a more active pace, cycling is a popular and rewarding way to see the island’s beautiful scenery.
Summary
The Bayview, nestled in Rothesay and conveniently just a 10-minute stroll from the ferry terminal One of the standout features of The Bayview is its breathtaking vista, captured perfectly through the bay window. Here, guests are treated to an uninterrupted panorama that spans across the picturesque Rothesay bay and stretches out to the serene waters of Loch Striven. It's a captivating sight that truly embodies the essence of coastal charm.

Had a wonderful time despite it all and sad that the flat did not live up to /realise its potential!-The view from the sitting room bay window -The elevated position of the building and close to woodland walk(and wild garlic!)-not even a small pack of milk/tea bags to greet after a day's journey -nothing to make proper coffee with (cafetieres not exactly expensive!) -extremely basically equipped kitchen -light switch in front bedroom badly fixed difficult to turn off/stuck (and no bedside light so went to bed in the dark) -only a central ceiling light in sitting room (so disappointing at dusk and the cracking view) -toilet cistern needs adjusting (took at least 10 minutes to refill -no large refuse bin in kitchen and no waste paper baskets anywhere Conclusion - somebody needs a refresher course in guest experience (if there is such a person which I doubt as the whole interaction is extremely arms length/automated)

Lovely flat right in the centre of Rothesay. Flat is done up to a high standard and has everything you need for a great stay in Bute. Would highly recommend.

we enjoyed our stay, the flat was well appointed and tastefully decorated with stunning views of Rothesay bay. Alan was an excellent host. couple of suggestions - a shelf for toiletries in the shower area of the bathroom would be helpful and the 2nd bedroom could do with a bedside table and lamp.

Beautiful views from the bay window. The apartment was well furnished, spotless and in a nice quiet location. Because we are in our 80's we found the hill a problem so we used the local taxi service rather than our car. We had a wonderful break in the sunshine for our 4 night break in Rothesay.
