Neighbourhood
Just a short journey from the mainland, the Isle of Bute is one of Scotland’s most accessible islands and it offers far more than its compact size suggests. Though only 15 miles long and 5 miles wide, Bute is rich in history, culture, wildlife, arts, and music, making it a perfect destination for visitors of all ages. At the heart of the island lies Rothesay, the main town and arrival point for most visitors. Bustling with life during the day, Rothesay offers a relaxed, peaceful charm in the evenings after the last ferry departs. The town is home to a variety of cafés, bars, restaurants, takeaways, and of course, ice cream shops, all catering to both locals and tourists alike. The island boasts a traditional Victorian charm, with beautiful period architecture lining its streets. Many of these historic buildings have seen thoughtful restoration in recent years, adding to the island’s unique character and appeal. A highlight of the shoreline is the striking Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, an iconic 1920s circular building made of cast iron and glass. Lovingly refurbished, it now features a cinema, theatre, and interactive exhibits, celebrating the very best of Bute’s heritage and creativity. History lovers will enjoy a visit to Rothesay Castle, complete with restored dungeons, thick stone walls, and an impressive great hall. Just a short stroll away, the Bute Museum offers further insight into the island’s fascinating past. No trip to Bute would be complete without exploring Mount Stuart House, a spectacular neo-Gothic mansion set amidst breathtaking gardens. It’s an unmissable stop during your stay, offering a glimpse into the grandeur and elegance of Bute’s historic legacy.
Transit
Reaching the Isle of Bute is simple and stress-free. The island is well-connected via a regular ferry service from Wemyss Bay on the Clyde coast. Wemyss Bay also has a railway station with frequent trains to and from Glasgow, making it a seamless journey whether you’re travelling by car or as a foot passenger. The CalMac ferry takes around 35 minutes and offers a comfortable crossing with stunning coastal views. It accommodates both vehicles and foot passengers, and docks right in the heart of Rothesay, Bute’s main town. Once you arrive, getting around is easy. Rothesay is very walkable, and taxis are readily available just outside the ferry terminal. The island is also served by a reliable public bus network, making it convenient to explore Bute without a car. For those who enjoy a more active pace, cycling is a popular and rewarding way to see the island’s beautiful scenery. The apartment is ideally located, with a bus stop just a minute’s walk away along the road offering regular services into Rothesay and beyond.
Summary
Set right on the seafront in the charming village of Kilchattan Bay. With panoramic views over the Clyde and towards the dramatic backdrop of Cumbrae, this is the perfect escape for those seeking peace, tranquillity, and a true taste of island life. Step inside and you’ll find a stylish, comfortable interior where you can instantly unwind. The lounge is the heart of the home; light, airy, and offering breathtaking views across the bay.

Great flat in kilchattan in perfect location for walks and close to Rothesay. Finding the place at night not the easiest as we landed up walking down the road checking house numbers to find but once found no problem at all. The space is plentiful for a 2 bed, we travelled with a 6 month old baby in a travel cot and large dog and no shortage of space in the AirBNB. The main bedroom has a small double bed and the secondary room has two singles which we were able to arrange to accommodate a large travel cot. The kitchen provides basic cooking utensils which was good for us to be able to cook dinner 2 nights of our stay. The flat was very warm for us arriving which was very welcome in the cold and wet! The flat is good shape and was clean. The kitchen could be done with a deep clean as there was a small spill of something on the floor and a few surfaces could be done with a wipe but nothing to hinder our stay. Decor is modern and fitting for Kilchattan.

This is a great little flat on the southern tip of Bute. Great location and directions to find, although their are two red door houses with alleys so make sure you get the right one! House was extremely clean and tidy, lots of good pots and pans in the kitchen. Shower is hot and powerful, although no shampoo or gel there so make sure to bring some! Overall a lovely apartment in a great location, but perhaps a tad too expensive.

Had a lovely short break at Coastal Charm. There was a mix up re: the keys on check in but the host resolved this quickly with great comms - we were given a later check out as a nice gesture! The flat is exactly as the description and was perfect for our stay. The view from the window is fantastic.

Beautifully located flat with amazing views. Great we could take our dogs. Decor is a bit tired and the window blinds are broken and don’t close in main bedroom so we slept in the twin room. It’s a shared garden without a gate so you need to go out with your dogs to ensure they don’t run out onto the road chasing rabbits!

Absolutely gorgeous location looking out over Kilchattan Bay, with a very short walk to the waters edge for swimmers. Beautifully clean place. Good size living room and kitchen with dining space. A 15 minute drive to Rothesay. Easy access on foot to the West Island Way for walkers.

Lage und Wohnung sind sehr schön ruhig wie beschrieben. Die Kücheneinrichtung ist sehr knapp bemessen.

A lovely flat with a beautiful outlook. A couple of minor issues when we arrived which were dealt with swiftly and with kindness. Would definitely stay here again.
